PRESIDENTIAL ISSUANCES IN RESPONSE TO COVID-19

Panabo Barangay Vies Child-Labor Free Title

PANABO CITY, Davao del Norte- Brgy. AO Floirendo in Panabo City is validated today in its application for a child-labor free distinction.

Brgy. AO Floirendo is the hometown of second district Representative to Congress, Hon. Antonio Floirendo Jr and houses the one of the biggest banana plantation in the country, the Tagum Agricultural Development Company, Inc. (TADECO).

According to data, Brgy. AO Floirendo has more than 1,100 households with 1,902 children aging 0-18 years old. Brgy. Councilor Archie Capoy emphasized that Brgy. AO Floirendo is a unique barangay as member or members of the household residing in the community are employees of the Tagum Agricultural Development Company, Inc. (TADECO) and its affiliates like the Davao Packaging Corporation (DPC).

Capoy also stressed that the residents of the barangays are beneficiaries of the company’s housing project.

With such situation, he said that barangay, companies and other partner-agencies in the area like the Department of Education were well coordinated to create a healthy living environment for its residents including its children.

Capoy boasted of its year-round sports program for the youth, the barangay’s consistent awards in nutrition and blood programs, and career guidance campaigns.

If found to be compliant, Brgy. AO Floirendo will be the second barangay in the province that is awarded as child-labor free barangay. The first was Brgy. Tanglaw of Dujali.

Aside from Brgy. AO Floirendo, three other barangays in the region also applied for the said recognition. These are Brgys. Balabag and Colorado, both in Digos City, Davao del Sur; and Brgy. Tagbinunga in Mati City, Davao Oriental. (PIA11 News, Michael Uy)
